Community Guidelines

These guidelines apply to every person using StrangerLine — as a guest or registered user, from any country, on any device, in any session type. By using StrangerLine in any capacity, you agree to follow these guidelines.

The following are absolute violations on StrangerLine. They result in an immediate, permanent ban without warning, and in most cases involve mandatory reporting to law enforcement. These rules cannot be appealed or negotiated.

2.1 Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) — Zero Tolerance

StrangerLine uses Cloudflare's automated CSAM detection technology. If a match is detected: the file transfer is immediately blocked, your session is immediately suspended, relevant data is preserved, a mandatory report is filed with NCMEC under US federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A), and a permanent, non-appealable ban is applied.

There are no warnings, no second chances, and no appeals for CSAM violations.

2.2 Minors Must Not Use This Platform

StrangerLine is strictly for users aged 18 and above. Adults who use StrangerLine to contact, communicate with, solicit, groom, or attempt to arrange a meeting with a person who is or appears to be under 18 will be immediately and permanently banned and reported to law enforcement.

2.3 Non-Consensual Intimate Content

You must never:

• Send sexual images, videos, or audio to a user who has not explicitly consented to receive media in this chat session
• Expose yourself sexually to another user without their affirmative consent in this session
• Share, distribute, or threaten to share intimate images or recordings of another person without their consent

2.4 Threats of Violence

Making credible threats of violence against any person or group is prohibited and will result in immediate permanent ban and may result in law enforcement notification.

The following behaviors are serious violations that will result in escalating consequences under our structured reporting system (see Section 7):

Harassment and Abuse

• Repeatedly targeting, insulting, or degrading another user
• Continued unwanted contact after a user has expressed disinterest or disconnected
• Threats, intimidation, or attempts to frighten or coerce another user
• Targeting users based on their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic

Deception and Impersonation

• Pretending to be another real person, including a StrangerLine staff member or moderator
• Systematically misrepresenting your identity, age, or intentions in order to deceive or harm another user

Spam and Commercial Misuse

• Sending the same or substantially similar messages to multiple users
• Advertising products, services, or external platforms
• Attempting to recruit users to external platforms without their interest
• Using bots, scripts, or automated tools to interact with users or the platform

Privacy Violations

• Sharing another user's personal information without their consent (doxxing)
• Recording another user's voice, video, or image without their explicit consent

Platform Manipulation

• Attempting to bypass a ban by creating a new account, using a VPN, or other means
• Submitting false or malicious reports against another user
• Coordinating with others to report a user for retaliatory or bad-faith reasons

StrangerLine connects strangers. The basic standard of conduct is simple: treat the person you are talking to as a person.

StrangerLine's media sharing system is built around affirmative, per-session consent. It exists so that no user ever receives media they did not agree to receive.

5.1 How the Consent System Works

At the start of every new chat session, each user is presented with a choice: accept or decline media from the person they have been paired with. This is:

• Per-session — asked fresh in each new conversation; does not carry over
• Affirmative — the user must actively choose to accept; silence or inaction does not equal consent

5.2 Blurred Images — A Second Layer of Consent

Even after a user accepts media sharing, all images received are blurred by default. The user must tap or click the image deliberately to reveal it. No image can be seen passively or by accident.

5.3 The 2-Minute Timer

When a user declines a media request: a 2-minute waiting period is automatically applied before you may submit another media request or initiate a call in that session. This is automatic and cannot be bypassed. Attempting to pressure a user during this period is itself a violation.

5.4 Your Obligations Around Media

• Never pressure or coerce a user into accepting media
• Never describe, verbally hint at, or preview sexual content before the user has consented
• Only share media appropriate to the consent the other user actually gave
• Never share any media involving minors under any circumstances, regardless of consent

6.1 How Call Requests Work

If you want to start a voice or video call, you must first send a call request. The other user will see a small, non-intrusive popup — not a full-screen interrupt — giving them a clear, unforced choice to accept or decline. You are never connected to a call without deliberately accepting it.

6.2 Respecting a Declined Call

A declined call means no. You must:

• Accept the refusal immediately and without argument
• Not repeatedly attempt to call a user who has declined
• Not use chat messages to coerce, guilt, or pressure a user into accepting a call

6.3 The 2-Minute Rejection Timer

When a call is declined, a 2-minute waiting period is automatically applied before you may attempt another call in that session. This is automatic and cannot be bypassed. Attempting to circumvent this timer is a violation.

StrangerLine operates a structured, escalating enforcement system. This system is transparent by design so users understand exactly what to expect.

7.1 How to Submit a Report

You can report any user during or after a chat using the in-app report button. Report reasons include: unsolicited sexual content, harassment or threatening behavior, suspected minor, suspected CSAM, spam or bot behavior, or other conduct that made you feel unsafe.

7.2 How We Review Reports

Our moderation team checks every report for legitimacy, accuracy, severity, and context. Reports found to be false, exaggerated, or submitted in bad faith may result in enforcement action against the person who submitted the report.

7.3 The Escalation Path

If your account is permanently banned, you may submit a formal appeal for manual review, unless the ban was issued for CSAM or related child exploitation violations.

• Appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the ban at: strangerline.io/appeals
• Appeals are reviewed by a human member of our Trust & Safety team
• CSAM-related bans are not eligible for appeal
• The decision following an appeal review is final
• Attempting to evade a ban while an appeal is pending will result in immediate dismissal of the appeal
