StrangerLine ("StrangerLine", "we", "us") is the data controller responsible for personal information processed through the strangerline.io platform.
Contact: support@strangerline.io
If you are an EU or UK resident with an unresolved data protection complaint, you have the right to contact your national data protection supervisory authority.
We collect what is necessary to run, secure, and improve the service. Below is a complete breakdown of every category of data we collect and the honest reason behind it.
What it is: A log recording that the "I'm at least 18 years old" checkbox was ticked, along with the timestamp and session identifier.
Why we collect it: StrangerLine is an adults-only platform. This log is our compliance evidence that we took reasonable steps to verify age.
Retention: 90 days, then deleted.
What it is: Nickname, age range, gender, country, or interests entered voluntarily before starting a chat.
Why we collect it: To improve matching quality. Providing this information is entirely optional.
Retention: Deleted when your session ends.
What it is: Email address, username, and profile details. If you use Google Sign-In, we receive your Google profile name and email.
Why we collect it: To authenticate you, manage your account, and enable features such as saved conversations, friend requests, and post-disconnect messaging.
Retention: Retained until you delete your account. Permanently removed within 30 days of deletion.
What it is: Topic categories you choose (e.g., gaming, music, language practice).
Why we collect it: To match you with users who share your interests.
Retention: Deleted at session end for guests; stored in your account profile until you update or remove it.
What it is: The internet address your device uses to connect to StrangerLine.
Why we collect it: Security, abuse prevention, and regional matching. We use it to detect and block banned users attempting to return, identify coordinated abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not use it to personally identify you for advertising.
Retention: Security logs retained for 90 days.
What it is: Browser type, operating system, device type, and language settings.
Why we collect it: To ensure the platform works correctly on your device and to distinguish real users from automated bots.
Retention: Session logs retained for 90 days.
What it is: Country or broad region derived from your IP address. We do not collect GPS or precise location data.
Why we collect it: For regional matching preferences, to apply the correct legal compliance notices, and to understand the global distribution of our user base.
Retention: Session logs retained for 90 days.
What it is: Session start and end times, number of chat rounds, and basic interaction events.
Why we collect it: To detect abuse patterns, support our moderation and reporting system, and improve platform performance.
Retention: 90 days.
What it is: Text messages exchanged between users during conversations.
Why we store it: To enable post-disconnect messaging, saving conversations for registered users, and supporting moderation review when a report is filed.
Retention: Guest session chats are deleted when the session expires. Saved conversations for registered users are retained until you delete them or your account.
What it is: Live audio and video during a call.
Do we store it? No. Voice and video streams are never recorded or stored. Streams travel peer-to-peer using WebRTC technology where possible.
What it is: Image files or voice messages shared during a chat.
Retention: Deleted after delivery, or after a maximum of 24 hours if undelivered. We maintain no media archive.
What it is: StrangerLine uses Cloudflare's automated CSAM detection technology. Every media file shared through the platform is checked by comparing a cryptographic hash against a database of known CSAM maintained by NCMEC.
If a match is confirmed, the following occurs automatically and by legal mandate:
What it is: The reason selected and context provided when you report another user.
Retention: Up to 12 months to support pattern-of-behavior analysis.
What it is: Records of warnings, final warnings, feature restrictions, or bans applied to an account or session.
Why we collect it: Our 3-4-5 enforcement system is built on escalation and cannot function fairly without this history.
Retention: Up to 2 years, or until account deletion.
What it is: Transaction identifiers, subscription status, and payment method type. We never receive or store full payment card numbers โ these are handled entirely by Razorpay (India) and PayPal (international) under PCI-DSS security standards.
Retention: Transaction records retained for 7 years for financial compliance.
What it is: Aggregated data about how visitors use the platform โ pages visited, features used, session duration, referral source.
Why we collect it: To understand what works, what doesn't, and where to improve. This data is aggregated and cannot identify you personally.
Provider: Google Analytics | Retention: Up to 26 months.
